Last week, Cowboys restricted free agent receiver Miles Austin visited with the New York Jets.
It was believed that the Jets would be offering Austin a contract. However, Rich Cimini of the Daily News is reporting that the Jets won't be making an offer to Austin.
Had the Jets offered Austin a contract, and the Cowboys did not match the offer, they would have received the Jets' second-round pick (number 52 overall) as compensation.

Miles Austin visits Jets
Per Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger, Dallas Cowboys restricted free agent Miles Austin visited with the Jets today. The Jets told Austin that they intend on making him an offer.
As a restricted free agent, the Cowboys would have seven days to match any offer that the Jets make. If the Cowboys choose not to match the offer sheet, the Jets would have to compensate the Cowboys with their second-round pick (number 52 overall).
The Cowboys' first pick (since the 20th overall pick went to Detroit as part of the Roy Williams trade) is the 51st pick.
Tim McMahon of the Dallas Morning News argues that a low-cost option to replace Austin (if the Cowboys don't match an offer by the Jets) would be to sign ex-Jaguars receiver Matt Jones.
Matt Jones, who was QB for Arkansas and a Jaguars first-round pick, was arrested for violating the terms of probation from a previous felony cocaine charge that was reduced.
If Jones can avoid a lengthy suspension by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, he might be a viable option. Jones had the best (football) year of his life in 2008 with 65 receptions for 761 yards (both career-highs).
